🔍 Thematic Presentation
The seminar began with a thematic presentation by Dr. Tran Viet Cuong, currently working at Université Panthéon-Sorbonne Paris 1 and Le Centre d'Économie de la Sorbonne, France. He presented his research titled "Economic Growth and Disaster".
Dr. Cuong is a specialist in theoretical economics, microeconomics, general equilibrium theory, mathematical economics, financial economics, macroeconomics, and economic growth. His presentation outlined future research directions, highlighting both theoretical and empirical implications, especially focusing on key factors and disaster-related risks that affect economic growth and development.
The study proposes optimal policy implications in both environmental and fiscal policy domains. It also serves as an initial draft for a long-term research project planned over three years.
Dr. Cuong introduced two main research programs. Based on prior studies, he analyzed the increasing frequency and intensity of disasters (natural and human-induced), climate change issues, and their consequences. Building on this, his research adopts an endogenous growth model, mainly drawing from Akao & Sakamoto (2018), and extending the findings of Bakkensen & Barragey (2016).
The study delves into the impact of disasters on consumers and firms in an imperfect market context, under conditions of general equilibrium and asset-related issues.
Dr. Cuong also expressed his hope to collaborate with faculty members and PhD students interested in topics related to economic growth and disaster studies.
🔄 Administrative Session
Following the presentation, the Faculty leadership and the Head of the Department of Economics held a session with PhD students across cohorts to clarify administrative procedures, research progress, and improve communication mechanisms between the Faculty and learners. This was also an opportunity for students to share difficulties and collectively propose practical solutions to improve research and learning processes.
