The Faculty of Economics (FE) was set up in July, 2010. Its precursor was Department of Economics established in 2001 belonging to the Faculty of Economics of Vietnam National University - HCMC (VNU-HCM). The Faculty is one of the major faculties of University of Economics and Laws, playing an important role in the development of a research university and promoting the development and progress of society.
At present, FE’s organizational structure includes:
Department of Economics, Department of Public Economics and Management, Faculty Committee.
FE’s staff of full-time lecturers has 25 people: 9 Doctors (5 Associate Professors), 16 Masters (14 PhD Candidates). Most lecturers have practical experiences in the academic major.
Part-time lecturers are 3 Doctors (1 Associate Professor, 2 Doctors)
Invited lecturers are 35 people, including professors, associate professors, economic experts at UEL and from prestigious universities in Vietnam.
Besides that, 58 PhD candidates, who are learning at FE, positively join academic and scientific research activities of the Faculty.
Since the establishment date, FE has been affirming its leading position in training, scientific research at UEL and VNU-HCM. The present training programs of the Faculty consist of undergraduate and postgraduate.

Over the past 17 years, FE has provided about 2,500 bachelors, 550 masters and 41 doctors. Some leaders, researchers and experts who currently hold important positions in Vietnam, graduated from FE.
FE has formed strong research groups, remarkably contributing to providing scientific arguments and consulting policies to serve the development and social progress in Vietnam.
These contributions have been appreciated very highly in society. Until now, FE has obtained the most achievements at UEL with outstanding awards.
- Excellent labor awards by VNU-HCM with continual 14 years.
- Certificates of satisfactory progress by the Prime Minister, Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training, and the Director of VNU-HCM..
- Labor Medal (rank 3) by Vietnam President.
- 3 lecturers achieve Meritorious Teacher Awards of Vietnam President, 6 lecturers achieve Labor Medals (rank 3) of Vietnam President.
