APPENDIX 3

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND DOCTORAL THESIS

Scientific research is the most important, compulsory in the process of implementing the dissertation. This is the most important basis for students to write thesis. Scientific research activities must be in line with the objectives of the doctoral dissertation. The duration of scientific research is the duration of the PhD program.

A doctoral dissertation is an independent, unique, and innovative research in the field of research that contributes theoretically, containing new knowledge, models or solutions that are valuable in the development, increase of scientific knowledge in the field of research or creative solving, with changing conditions of problems with scientific theory in the field of economics.

Ph.D. students have a clear grasp of the two popular schools of study in the field of qualitative methodology and quantitative methodology. If quantitative research is to discover theories of science, based on the principle of inductance, quantitative research is linked to their verification, based on the principle of inference. Research methodology, research methodology and research tools are required for the qualification for the PhD program in economics.

Thus, PhD students must capture both inference, as well as inductively, qualitatively and quantitatively, to apply them scientifically to their own research. In qualitative terms, students need to know how to build scientific theories from data, Case Study Methods, Focus Groups, expert methods, and so on. In terms of quantification, some methods and tools are needed such as the way Surveys are carried out, Experimental Studies, Measurement and Construction, and analytical tools. Data types such as Revealed Data, Surveys Data, and Experimental Data such as regression models, logarithms, logistic bitters, structural models linear SEM (Structural Equatio Modeling), and other modern models.

The doctoral dissertation must have new academic contributions, be submitted in academic academic language, apply the basic theories of specialized and interdisciplinary theories linked to the field of sutras, theoretical analysis of the schools, theories and results obtained in previous studies that are directly related to the thesis. Based on that, the new problem, the new hypothesis or the new solutions to solve the problems of the thesis and proof

by new arguments and evidence. The author of the dissertation must have a pledge of honor for his scientific work.

Language to write the thesis is Vietnamese, or one of five foreign languages were introduced about the conditions for recruitment candidates. In case the thesis is selected foreign language for writing and presentation, it must be accepted by the President of the University of Economics and Law.

The main contents and research results of the dissertation must be published or approved in at least two independent scientific peer-reviewed articles in specialized journals or abroad. Scientific journals must be on the list of professions designated by the State Council for Professions related to the discipline of Economics and Business Administration.

The thesis structure must include the following sections:

  • Introduction: brief introduction of the research, reasons for choosing the topic, purpose, object, scope of research, scientific and practical significance of the topic. Particularly, this section also introduces a tool to detect the theoretical flaws and the test results of the new thesis.
  • Overview of research issues: This is a very important part of the thesis. Overview of the research topic of the topic refers to scientific works, articles published scientific, the thesis has protected the scientific council in the same field in the world and in the country. The thesis author can clarify the novelties in previous studies to inherit and project the development. Clarifying this issue helps the student to focus on the subject matter of the previous authors, learning from experience, developing ideas to avoid copying, clear choice of research direction of the topic. The study overview also helps the Ph.D student identify gaps in theory and find appropriate methods to fill them.
  • Research contents and results (may be arranged in one or several chapters): presentation of theory, rationale and scientific hypotheses, research methods; research results and discussion issues.
  • Conclusions and Solutions: present new findings, conclusions drawn from research results; Offer new solutions to the problem and move on to the next.
  • List of works published research results of the thesis: Thesis and of course these published works must be related to thesis topic.
  • Reference lists are cited and used in the thesis, and must be presented in accordance with international practice (APA).
  • Appendix

The Ph.D thesis has a capacity ranging from 150 to a maximum of 200 A4 pages, of which more than 50% present Ph.D research results and arguments, excluding the appendix.

The dissertation must be presented in accordance with the General Regulations of the University of Economics and Law, VNU-HCM, as well as the Faculty of Economics.
