1. Objectives

a. The general objectives

Graduates of bachelor's program of Economics would have comprehensive and in depth knowledge, good professional skills, good ethics and the appropriate attitude for working in the field of Economics and social - political areas as well as the capacity of implementation scientific researches and teaching Economics.

b. Specific objectives

-        To have intensive knowledge in the field of Economics.

-        To have capacity of organization, management, implementation in enterprise areas.

-        To have capacity of planning, consulting for enterprises, government, international organizations and non-government organizations.

-        To be able to doing further researches independently in Economics

-        To have good health, professional ethics

5. Education process and graduation requirements:

Based on the training regulations and University Colleges under Credit System Issued together with Decision No. 1368 / Vietnam National University-University & Graduate November 21, 2008 by the Director of City National University. Ho Chi Minh City.

a. Education Process

Education system: Follow the credit system

Education process is divided into 8 semesters:

 

- Knowledge of basic education:  the first, second and third semesters.

- Knowledge of major facility: The fourth semester.

- Knowledge Sector: The fifth, sixth and seventh semesters.

- Final internship, thesis or thematic study: The eighth semester.

b. Graduation Requirements

Students graduating recognized, if they fulfill the following conditions:

- Completion of the course curriculum in accordance with the provisions and accumulated enough credits training industry regulations.

- Achieved certifications of military education and physical education;

- At the time of graduation, students are not prosecuted for criminal liability or are not disciplined by suspension.

1) Course: Advanced Mathematics

Prerequisites: Mastered basic math knowledge.

Brief description:

This course equips students with the mathematical tools of differentiation, integrals, matrices, determinants as the basis for calculations and applications used in econometric models.

2) Course: Fundamental of Informatics

Brief description:

The aims of this course is providing students with the basic knowledge of computer - information management, operating system and software, internet, and some basic applications such as searching information, text editor

3) Course: Fundamental of Law

Prerequisites: Basic social knowledge

Brief description:

This course provides students with the basic knowledge of the state and the law, the legal system of Vietnam, types of legal documents of Vietnam, civil liabilities and responsibilities and methods handled infringement. In addition, this course raises students’ awareness of abiding by the laws.

4) Course: Economic Geography

Credit: 3

Prerequisites: Basic social knowledge

Brief description:

The aim of this course is to analyse natural resources and socio-economic conditions  of Viet Nam in general as well as some typical areas in particular in order to stimulate socio-economic development and protect environment.

 This course offers some orientations to enhance the economy in the period of industrialization and modernlization.

In addition, the course also constructs plans  to use resources effectively.

5) Course: Marxist Leninist Philosophy

Brief description:

This course equips students with knowledge of conditions leading to arising of some economic theories, basic contents of economic theories affected on socio- economic development. This assists students with analysing, avaluating economic phenomena and applying in practical issues in Vietnam                     

7) Course: History of Vietnam and World Economy

Credit: 3

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge about social science and economics

Brief description:

This course equips students with the basic understanding of stages of economic development, policies applied in each phase in some typical countries, including the USA, Japan, China, the former Soviet Union; some common characteristics of developing countries including Southeast Asia and Vietnam. This course analyzes stages of economic development in Vietnam from the nation's founding to the present.

8) Course: Logic

Credit: 3

Brief description:

This course equips students with the basic understanding of the role of logic in life. Students learn the forms and principles, logic thinking such as judgment, reasoning, causal laws, radical three law This knowledge will facilitate learners to apply in evaluating associated phenomena and economic processes.

9)Course: Microeconomics

Credit: 4

Brief description:

Equipping students with the theory about the basic principles of microeconomics in the market economy regulated by government.

Helping students to understand the behavior of businesses and individuals in business and production activities and consumer

Giving students how to analyze and describe the economic activity, the application of statistical techniques and mathematical economics, theories to construct economic models

10) Course: Macroeconomics

Credit: 4

Brief description:

Equipping students with the theories, basic principles of macroeconomics in the market economy regulated by government.

Helps students understand the tools of macroeconomic policies.

11) Course: Fundamentals of Accounting

Credit: 3

Brief description:

Students understand intermediate accounting principles, issues related to records of accounting, accounting methods of production and sales. Students can apply these principles to establish the basic accounting reports such as balance sheet, business results report.

12) Course: Fundamentals of Management

Credit: 3

Brief description:

Finish the course, students are able to understand functions and roles of an administrator, analyze the influences of endogenous and exogenous factors on decision making of managers, how can a manager do planning, control organization and make decisions.  Students can apply this general knowledge in some areas such as human resources management, information management.

13) Course: Health and Sport Training

Credit: 5

Brief description:

Students understand the principles and methods of doing sports and the effects of these activities on the physical development; the legal and technical regulations for certain sports such as average distance running, volleyball

14) Course: National Defense Education

Credit: 8

Brief description:

This course provides students with some general knowledge of policies of country's military, technical and tactical military. Students understand the political role of the military in the process of socio-economic development of the nation. End coursework, students have more awareness of national defense issues and national protection.

15) Course: Revolution Policy of Vietnam Communist Party

Credit: 3

Brief description:

The course equips students with awareness about:

The role of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the process of building and protecting the country, experienced lessons during the Vietnamese revolutionary. This course also offers panoramic innovation and critical awareness and Policy of Communist Party of Vietnam since 1986.

The lessons from those experiences plays an important role in consolidation of patriotic education, ethnic pride and sense of responsibility of the learners in building confidence in the leadership of the party in the context of the integration.

 This course provides students with advanced knowledge of international economics. On that basis, this course equips students with theoretical knowledge for the research subjects in the field of foreign and economic policies for the development of international economic relations of Vietnam.

Brief description:

Finish the course, students are able to understand the basic statistical methods, analyze statistical indicators applied in some quantitative courses. Students can apply the statiscal methodologies and analysis methods on socio-economic researches.

19) Course: Fundamentals of Marketing

Brief description:

This course equips students with general knowledge of market, products and consumer behaviors

The course also provides students with methods of market research; methods of brand valuation, strategy formulation and branding; how to organize distribution channels and customer service; how to build organizations plan, implement and control marketing plans.

-          Ho Chi Minh Ideology of revolutionary nationalism and national liberation

-          Socialism and the path of transition to socialism in Vietnam

Students understand some basic issues related to economic contracts such as contracting, effect and dispute resolution, distinguish types of business organization according to economic law.

22) Course: Microeconomics 2

Prerequisites: Advanced Mathematics, Microeconomics 1

Brief description

This course is concerned with the behavior of individual economic agents and their interactions. It studies how individual economic agents make decisions and how markets function.

This course introduces the basics of microeconomic analysis. It also serves as a quick review of some basic economic concepts. The course studies consumer behavior and market demand. We will show how a consumer may make optimal choices, how individual demands are formed, and how market demand can be derived. In addition, the course discusses the firm's technologies, production functions and production costs. We shall see how firms can make the optimal input choices to minimize production costs. This lays the foundation for the study of behavior of firms under different forms of market structure. The course integrates the previous material into models of prices and outputs under different market structures. Topics in game theory and business strategies will be covered. Economic efficiency and public policy issues will also be discussed.

 

23) Course: Macroeconomics 2

Prerequisites: The advanced math core 1, core 2 and the Macroeconomics 1

Brief description

Macroeconomics studies concerns related to the whole national economy. GDP – Gross Domestic Product ( or GNI – Gross National Income), economic growth, inflation, unemployment, currency rate, balance of trade, balance of payment, etc  are the issues focused in Macroeconomics .This subject will help the student understand how the economy works, effects of macroeconomic policies in long-term and short-term, the regulatory role of government in modern economy, impacts of capital flows on the economy. Especially, the students will be able analyze the real-life effects of macroeconomics policies in many different perspectives.

24) Course: Agricultural Economics and Rural Development

Credit: 3

Prerequisites: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics

Brief description:

This course provides students with the advanced knowledge of agricultural economics. It supplies students with theories, methods of economic analysis and lessons learned from countries around the world and various areas in Viet Nam in the field of agricultural and rural development. Simultaneously, students are able to apply this knowledge in practice.

25) Course: Labor Economics

Brief description:

The course researches methods and forms of using socio-economic rules in the field of improving efficiency, patterns and working conditions, moral and mental incentives, reproduction of labor power.

26) Course: Public Economics

Prerequisites: Microeconomics, Political economy, Macroeconomics, Econometrics.

Brief description:

The aim of this course is to research on roles, duties and functions of public sectors, simultaneously on methods and principles of public sectors in economy.

In addition, this course equips students with the general knowledge to distinguish some kinds of public goods in practice include pure public goods, impure public goods, etc.

Besides, this course also helps students analyze problems of public choices, evaluate public expenditure programs of government

27) Course: Socio-Economic Development Policies

Credit: 3

Prerequisites: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Development economics

Brief description:

This course is one of the major compulsory courses for students of Economic & Public Policy Management and Economics.

It equips students with the basic knowledge of theoretical foundation of development planning in market economy, of nature, position, requirements of development planning system such as strategy, planning, five-year plan, annual plan, development projects & programs.

Simultaneously, this course equips students with planning methods in market economy such as how to built plan of economic growth, how to use resources like labor, capital based Harrod-Domar and Input-Output model.

Finish the course, students are able to analyze, evaluate and make a development plan for an industry, a local and a country.

28) Course: Economic Forecasts

Credit: 3

Prerequisites: Finished Econometrics and basic courses in economics

Brief description:

This course provides students with modern viewpoints about methods of predictive statistical analysis applied in the field of accounting and auditing, analysis of the business activities, the relationship between financial accounting and management accounting. This course also equips students with the basic knowledge and program about processing the primary and secondary data. Thereby, students are able to analyze and forecast the specialized research.

Providing students with basic knowledge of research methods and applying this to solve practical problems.

Helping students understand the methods of data collection and data processing with computer applications. On that basis, students can study Graduation Thesis or Advanced Topics in Economics

29) Course: Modern Economic Theories

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of Economics, History of Economic theories

Brief description:

This course equips students with the theories about economy and market economy as well as the development of modern economics. On that basic, students understand the basic of forming models and economic policies in different countries all over the world; and; apply in Viet Nam. Besides, this course also helps students research deeply about economics and relating subjects.

30) Course: Project Formulation and Appraisal

Credit: 3

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of advanced mathematics, microeconomics 1 and macroeconomics 1

Brief description:

This course equips students with knowledge about:

-          Methods and contents of an investment project formulation

-          Contents, methods and appraisal of an investment project

After finishing this course, students are able to formulate, appraise and manage investment projects in enterprises, committees and branches or relating fields.

31) Course: Public Finance

Credit: 3

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of macroeconomics, microeconomics, the theory of finance and banking

Brief description:

Equipping students with basic knowledge of public finance as well as its role in Government’s activities and the effects of financial policies on economy.

Providing students knowledge, methods and analysis skills to evaluate policies of public finance including public income and expenditure, its effects on the economy as well as working motivation and income redistribution in society.

Equipping students with basic knowledge about methods, portfolio valuation and standards to choose public investment projects which are different from private ones.

32) Course: Psychology and Leadership

Prerequisites: Fundamentals of social knowledge.

Brief description:

This course mentions to some problems such as psychological management and business, psychological factors of individuals and society to the efficiency of management and business, demands on qualities and abilities of leaders. These contents will be performed in 6 lessons.

The course will create a foundation for students to get advanced knowledge in other subjects as well as learn more practical skills.

33) Course: Real Estate Business

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of macroeconomics and public economics

Brief description:

This course equips students with basic knowledge of the estate market such as characteristics of market, methods to evaluate property price as well as profits and marketing for this market. In that basic, Government can design policies to estate market so as to be appropriate to the institution of a modern market economy.

34) Course: Public Relations

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of fundamentals of management and marketing

Brief description:

This course discusses about principles of public relations in business. It also focuses on finding tools and techniques to create and maintain the positive images of companies in society as well as know more about viewpoints and attitudes in publicity, policies on public relations. 13. Guiding for program implementation

- Based on the reference frame of the program of Ministry of Education and Training, this bachelor programs follow the credits system of the University of Economics and Law. Program is built based on the specific objectives, the actual conditions of University of Economics and Law, including general knowledge and professional knowledge. Education period is 8 semesters (four years).

- The program is built on certain principles in order to ensure interoperability, scientific and social needs.

- The lecturers have to comply with the requirements of the program.

- Subjects must be done correctly in order each semester, as required prerequisite courses, subjects first, following courses, courses in parallel. The order of courses will not be changed without acceptance of the Science Council.

- The implementation of teaching under this program must comply with the Regulation on credit system of the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City. After finishing the course, if completed enough credits to be recognized and graduation, the school was granted university diploma Bachelor's degree.

- The program will be adjusted with the development of industries and practices.
